Personally, I just find the size I need and order a new ribbon on Amazon. I even went as far as winding a ribbon from a larger spool onto my Corsair spools. For inking up burnt out ribbon, I would just do what you’re doing, but just leave it one one spool, give it some ink, let it set for a while, hit it up again and repeat that a few times and thread it on in to see how it went.
